I originally entered FSU as a psychology major, with dreams of becoming a forensic psychologist. I liked the idea of being able to understand one’s mind and help make a difference for not only the individual I’d be interacting with, but the people around them. I was fairly set on this, even with knowledge of the amount of schooling and finances it would require, and the job availability in my desired future settings. After exposure to the nursing program and what it is like to be a registered nurse, I realized it was the right path for me. I have always believed in the importance of patient care when in a hospital setting. To me, healthcare extends beyond diagnoses, prescriptions, and comfortable rooms. Nurses can make all the difference in how supported one feels, and they can tend to the emotional state of the patient.
I have always been the type to try to improve one’s state of mind through active listening, empathy, and cooperation. This aspect of who I am shows I would be more fitted for a nursing position, as they are more person-oriented. Now, there are many jobs out there that help people; however, my love for science and physiology, as well as my want to help people, has encouraged me to pursue a nursing career.
